During the break, three Vancouver Rise FC players got the call to represent their national teams during the latest international window. Holly Ward (Canada), Jessika Cowart (Philippines) and Jade Mitchell (Jamaica) were out there doing us proud by representing both the Northern Super League and Rise FC on the international stage.
Holly Ward: Canada
After lighting it up for Canada in her last call-up against Haiti, Ward was once again a key figure for Team Canada in their matches against Costa Rica and the United States.
Against Costa Rica, Ward started her second ever match for Canada, and completed her first full 90 in their 4-1 win. In that time, the Vancouver-native put up another Player of the Match performance by scoring Canada’s second goal of the match, firing her effort right into the roof of the net to put them ahead of Costa Rica in the 74th minute. Ward finished the match with one goal and one key pass, as well as with the most successful dribbles (5), crosses (3) and duels won (11) in the game.
Against the US, Ward came off the bench in the 86th minute, playing 9 minutes in Canada’s 3-0 defeat. However, despite joining late in the game, Ward had an instant impact as she set-up fellow substitute Annabelle Chukwu for a great opportunity to score shortly after coming on, proving once again how dangerous she can be in any stage of a match.
Those two matches added her third and fourth caps for Canada, continuing her rise on the international stage.
Jessika Cowart: Philippines
Jessika Cowart made history this past week, as she helped the Philippines win all three of their qualifiers in Cambodia to qualify for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Cowart played 90 minutes in all three of their matches against Saudi Arabia, Cambodia and Hong Kong, playing a huge part for the Philippines as they scored 10 goals and conceded 0 on the way to their first-place finish.
Those three matches marked Cowart’s 37th, 38th and 39th cap for Philippines.
Jade Mitchell: Jamaica
Jade Mitchell, of the Vancouver Rise FC Academy, celebrated a massive achievement as she earned her first senior call-up for Jamaica in their friendly against England.
Mitchell has previously played numerous times for Jamaica’s U-20s, catching the eye of senior team Head Coach Hubert Busby. “Jade [Mitchell] has come through the Under-20 programme and done really well,” said Busby in a pre-match press conference. “We want to try to provide opportunities and the experience for those young players to come through. So we're really looking forward to having her in the squad; she's an exciting prospect that I think will do well for us in the future.”
This call-up marks the first big step for the young Rise FC midfielder in what will surely be a long and fruitful international career.
