They say that third time’s the charm!
That’s what Rise FC will be hoping for on June 22nd as they face Montréal Roses FC for the third time this season. Having lost their previous two matches against the league leaders, Rise FC will need to learn from those lessons and give it all they got as they look to get their first win against Roses FC.
STRONG RIGHT FROM THE FIRST WHISTLE: Roses FC will be the first team that Rise FC faces for a third time this season — giving Rise FC a chance to put past takeaways into practice at home on Sunday. One of the biggest is making sure the players are switched on from the start. In Rise FC’s previous two games against Roses FC, the Québec-side has scored all their goals in the opening half-hour. However, after that mark, Rise FC have been able to go toe-to-toe with the league leaders and even score against them. In fact, across both of those matches, Rise FC were able to get similar shots and possession numbers by the end of them, showcasing the parity of the two sides once Rise FC were locked in.
The goal for Rise FC then is clear: start strong, don’t let Roses FC get on the score sheet early and settle into the match before scoring some goals!
LEE ON FIRE: Strong teams always need strong strikers, and Rise FC have one of the most in form forwards in the league right now in Mariah Lee. The American has scored in three out of the last four matches for Rise FC, and has had a 100% conversion rate with her shots on target (3G, 3SOT) this season. Lethal off set-pieces and open play, the prolific striker will want to add another to her tally when Rise FC host Roses FC on Sunday.
But Lee isn’t the only player who has a 100% conversion rate on the team. Midfield maestro Quinn has been able to step-up to the plate when it’s come to penalties this season, scoring all three penalties that they’ve shot. That puts them tied for second in the scoring charts (alongside Lee), an incredible feat for a defensive midfielder who is having their best scoring season of their career already.
HARNESSING THAT TENACIOUSNESS: Rise FC have become a team that even when the chips are down, they never give up and never stay down. That was put on display in their last match against AFC Toronto. Even when the team were two goals down, Rise FC were able to fight hard to bring it back to a one goal margin – not just once, but twice. That’s the kind of resolve that you see from champions and that’s exactly the attitude that Rise FC need to harness for this match against top of the table Roses FC.
Rise FC have even proved that they can come back from behind and win matches after going down early, with their 2-1 win over Halifax Tides FC earlier in the season. In that match, Rise fought back and earned a victory through hard work and determination. No doubt that Head Coach Anja Heiner-Møller will demand that same kind of perseverance from her team on Sunday to try to get that big win over Roses FC.
