There’s truly no place like home.
After a tough road trip to the East Coast, Rise FC are back home at Swangard Stadium as they look to get back to winning ways with two home games in the span of one week. Up first is Halifax Tides FC, a team that Vancouver Rise FC has already been able to get the better of this season but who still have plenty of danger about them.
LEARNING FROM THOSE ROAD LESSONS: In Rise FC’s first-ever away trip to the East Coast, the team got to learn a lot of lessons from being on the road. AFC Toronto saw Rise FC earn a last-gasp equalizer to get themselves a draw before they endured a hard day at the office against Ottawa Rapid FC just a few days later. No doubt Rise FC will take the learnings from these past games and apply them to their upcoming home games, aiming to get some good results in front of their own fans and get themselves back on track for the season.
TURNING POSSESSION INTO POINTS: Head Coach Anja Heiner-Møller said from the very start that she wants her side to maintain control in matches, and so far, the team have done a very good job of doing exactly that. In every match so far, Rise FC has had over 50% of the share of possession. And despite only recording four points out of a possible nine in their last three games, they have been able to dominate control of the ball, once even reaching near 60% possession by the end of a match.
The job now is for the team to turn that possession into meaningful attacks and those attacks into goals. Having been outshot 14 to 7 last time out against Ottawa, Rise FC will certainly be hungry to find those scoring opportunities and test Tides FC’s ‘keeper across the full 90 minutes.
BANGERS BEWARE!: Last time out, these two sides fought hard for the win at Swangard Stadium, but all three points were claimed by Rise FC thanks to a banger by Jasmyne Spencer. A stunning volley right around the 18-yard box proved to be the difference and now Rise FC are going to be looking for even more glory on Wednesday night. Having scored in every match bar one, Rise FC will be raring to score even more goals against Tides FC, with perhaps an eye to pull off yet another banger of a goal that can live on highlight reels for weeks to come.
