VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Rise FC are in hot form after their huge road win on the weekend against the league leaders, and take on a similarly sharp Calgary Wild FC at home with redemption on their minds.   

STATEMENT VICTORY: After getting that vital last minute winner against Halifax Tides on August 15, Rise FC followed it up with a colossal 5-1 victory at the home of the league leaders in Ottawa Rapid FC. Rise FC were sharp from the first whistle, and pushed Ottawa all the way until the end of the first half, where summer signing Alex Lamontagne scored her first goal of the season. The second half saw Rise FC kick it into another level, scoring four unanswered goals before Ottawa got a consolation in the last ten minutes. “It was amazing, all around,” beamed Rise FC Head Coach Anja Heiner-Møller. “It was a full team performance, multiple people got on the scoresheet, everyone just stepped up today. It was a really great win for the team.” That win comes at a perfect moment as Rise FC head into their second four-match homestand with a playoff place at stake. 

LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION: Rise FC now come up against Calgary Wild FC, who are in a resurgence as well. Having only taken two points out of their opening 14 matches, the Albertan side are now undefeated in three matches, winning two and drawing one. In their last two matches, Wild FC defeated table-toppers Rapid FC in a thrilling 4-3 match, and most recently held the capital city’s closest rivals Montreal Roses FC to a two-all draw. With both teams in good form, Rise FC will need to take their recent momentum and add some extra fire to it, as they look to hit back at Wild FC after their last-minute home defeat to their provincial rivals on August 8. 

UP STEPS LAMONTAGNE: Rise FC fans have found themselves another forward spark to cheer for in Alex Lamontagne. The Toronto-native came back to Ontario and started her first match for Rise FC against Rapid FC this past weekend. As first starts go, few could have been quite better as Lamontagne not only scored her first goal in added time in the first half, but scored her second within 17 seconds of the restart. The dynamic attacker did not stop there, as she provided a fantastic assist on Anna Bout's goal for Rise FC’s third, before winning a penalty for Rise FC’s fourth, to which Camila Reyes converted. Lamontagne might not have played the full 90, but her impact was felt well beyond the match as Rise FC’s playoff push got a huge boost on the back of this stellar performance.
