VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Rise FC continue their eight-day road trip with a visit to the nation’s capital to face Ottawa Rapid FC on Wednesday.
RECALLING HISTORY: Rise FC travel back to TD Stadium on Wednesday, the same venue where, last season, the team was able to pull off an incredible penalty shootout victory in the semi-final of the NSL Playoffs against Rapid FC. In that second leg match, Rise FC went into it with a 2-1 lead after winning the home leg the week prior. Ottawa scored on either side of halftime to put them in the driver's seat, until Holly Ward was able to score a goal with five minutes to go, levelling the score at 3-3 on aggregate. Both sides went at it in extra time, coming close on various occasions to taking the lead, but it ended up having to go to a penalty shootout to decide the match. Rise FC goalkeeper Morgan McAslan was able to be the hero by saving two penalties, setting up Sofia Hagman to score the winner and send the team to the NSL Final, where the rest is history…
ON THE SEARCH FOR FIRST POINTS: After the first two matchdays, Rise FC are still looking to get their first points of the season, and come against an in-form Ottawa Rapid FC. The last time that Rise FC had a regular season game against Rapid FC in Ottawa, they were able to come away with an impressive 2-0 win last October. Latifah Abdu and Jessica De Filippo scored two first-half goals, three minutes apart to secure an important three points on the road. This time, Rise FC will have to dig deep against a Rapid FC side that had a strong home opener this past Saturday, defeating Calgary Wild FC 5-2 while scoring four unanswered goals.
TORI TUMETH TIME: Rise FC fans got to see the first minutes of their latest signing, Tori Tumeth, this past weekend against Montreal Roses FC. The 25-year-old defender came in from Sydney FC in Australia, where she made over 60 appearances and won the A-League Women Championship in the 2023/24 season. After joining the team last week, the defender was able to come in and play 25 minutes on Saturday, shoring up the backline and showing great composure on the ball. Now with a few more days to adjust, Tumeth could be in line for more minutes to help Rise FC secure their first win of the season in Ottawa this Wednesday.
