VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Rise FC (7W-5L-5D) return home this week after a very successful road trip. They’ll face Montréal Roses FC (8W-5L-4D) at Swangard Stadium on Saturday in hopes of climbing into second place.
RECORD BREAKERS: Rise FC go into this match having broken the record for most consecutive matches unbeaten with six. It all started on that incredible road trip to Halifax that itself ended in a record-breaking 6-0 victory over Halifax Tides FC. Rise FC then continued with a huge 2-1 win over league-leaders AFC Toronto at home before being held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by the visiting Ottawa Rapid FC. Then Rise FC went on a three-week road trip where they got seven out of a possible nine points, keeping a clean sheet in a draw against Tides FC before beating AFC Toronto once again at the historic BMO Field. That concluded with another thriller against Rapid FC, as Rise FC scored a last-minute winner to flip the script in a 3-2 victory.
Now back at home, Rise FC will want to make it seven straight games unbeaten in front of their faithful fans.
RISING UP THE TABLE: Thanks to that incredible run of form that Rise FC have been on, the Vancouver side have now climbed up to third in the table after 17 matches played. With that hard-fought victory over Rapid FC, Rise FC have leap-frogged the capital city club into third on 26 points, one point above Rapid FC and only two points behind Montréal Roses FC in second on level matches played. That means that Saturday’s match is another opportunity for Rise FC to continue their stellar rise up the table, as three points over Roses FC will put them ahead of them in second by a point. And with AFC Toronto just six points off in first place, anything is possible for Rise FC right now.
THE CHANG & WARD SHOW: While everyone on Rise FC has done more than their part throughout this unprecedented unbeaten run, two players have really shone through in the last several weeks. One of those has been Samantha Chang, who has been in blistering form as of late. The Canadian international has registered five goal involvements in her last five matches for Rise FC, including four spectacular goals from outside the box, the most recent of which was a direct free kick to win the match for Rise FC in stoppage time. The other has been Holly Ward who has been in top form on the left-hand side. Ward has registered an incredible six goal involvements (4G/2A) in her last five matches, capping it off with a dizzying run against Rapid FC in the last match in which she skipped past Rapid FC’s ‘keeper and rolled it into the back of the empty net.
With these two in hot form spearheading Rise FC, it looks to be a long night for Roses FC on Saturday night at Swangard Stadium!
