VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Rise FC (6W-5L-5D) concludes their three-week road trip this week, travelling back to Ontario to face Ottawa Rapid FC (7W-5L-4D) in hopes of extending their unbeaten streak to an unprecedented six straight matches.
AGAINST ALL ODDS: Rise FC are coming off a historic victory last week against AFC Toronto. In front of a noisy crowd at Toronto’s BMO Field, Rise FC did the improbable by coming away with all three points after Jasmyne Spencer was given a red card in the 39th minute. Jessica De Filippo scored her third goal of the season just seconds into the second half to give Rise FC the lead. AFC Toronto then threw everything they had at Rise FC to equalize, but Rise FC stood strong and kept Toronto at bay despite the one-player disadvantage to steal all three points.
Rise FC’s victory is the first time in NSL history a team has gone down to 10 players and went on to win the match, setting yet another record in this inaugural Northern Super League season.
LOOKING TO MAKE MORE HISTORY: After Rise FC’s victory over AFC Toronto last Sunday, the team has extended their undefeated streak to five straight matches. This run of games is tied for the most games unbeaten alongside AFC Toronto. In their run, Toronto went unbeaten for five matches (5W) across 37 days from mid-June to mid-July. Currently, Rise FC are at five matches (3W-2D) unbeaten across 35 days and counting.
Having already broken various records, Rise FC now have an opportunity to break another one should they grab points from Ottawa Rapid FC this weekend and make it six games without defeat.
REDEMPTION AT TD PLACE: The last time Rise FC faced Rapid FC at TD Place, Rapid FC came away with a 3-0 victory. However, much has changed since that last meeting in May, as Rise FC have found a new gear over halfway through the season. In fact, the last time that these teams faced was in that exhilarating 3-3 draw at Swangard Stadium earlier this month. Rapid FC stole a point in the dying seconds of the match, after Rise FC came from behind twice to take a lead into the closing stages. Despite the result, that match proved that Rise FC had the fighting spirit to go toe-to-toe with Rapid FC.
Now, after what happened in the last match, Rise FC will be hungry to flip the script at TD Place and bring home three points.
