VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Rise FC are squaring up against Calgary Wild FC at Swangard Stadium for the first time this season, as the extended homestand continues into its third match. 

GETTING BACK TO FORM: Last week saw Rise FC fall to a back-and-forth 4-3 loss against Montreal Roses FC, despite a resilient effort from the whole team. Rise FC led twice in the match through Maithé López and Anaïs Oularbi, but a 20-minute period across either side of halftime put Roses FC in the driver's seat, with Latifah Abdu’s late goal a consolation. After the match, head coach Anja Heiner-Møller acknowledged the team’s effort, but recognized the need for control. “I think the team had a really good performance in terms of working their butt off the whole game,” she said. “We definitely want to be more on the ball, especially the first half. I think we can play with a little more courage when we’re building up and come a little closer to the front line when they’re pressing us.” Saturday will give Rise FC the chance to show that courage and composure against Calgary Wild FC as they push to move back into the playoff spots. 

HIGH-SCORING MEMORIES: Calgary Wild FC comes to Swangard Stadium for the first time this season, and the first visit since that 6-0 game last September. In that match, Rise FC flexed their scoring muscles by putting six goals past Wild FC, equalling their record for the biggest margin of victory. Latifah Abdu christened her Rise FC debut with two goals in that game, with Jessica De Filippo and Quinn also jumping in on the scoring. That win almost all but assured Rise FC of making it into the top four spots of the playoffs, premeditating their eventual victory in the NSL Final later in November. Now almost a year on, Rise FC will be looking for history to repeat itself with another huge win against their provincial neighbours. 

FOOTBALL IS FOR EVERYONE: This Saturday’s match marks Rise FC’s second annual Pride match, celebrating inclusivity and diversity in our community. The afternoon will feature a colourful array of events, including drag performances from award-winning drag artists, Pride-themed food items and local LGBTQ+ community group activations to amplify the message of love and acceptance at Swangard Stadium.
