BURNABY, BC (SEPTEMBER 19, 2026) – It was another thrilling match at Swangard Stadium on Saturday, as a pair of goals in added time made Vancouver Rise FC draw 2-2 with Montreal Roses FC, keeping their spot in the playoff places.
Rise FC had a bright start to the match, storming Roses FC’s box from the first whistle.
Leading scorer Jessica De Filippo had the first look on goal inside 90 seconds when she rose high to meet a cross near the front post, but her effort was too high.
De Filippo nearly created a goal just five minutes later, sending Mia Pante down the left side. The winger drove straight on goal and fired a shot that deflected just wide of the far post.
Montreal almost stole the lead in the 16th minute, however, after a free kick saw a volleyed effort from Stephanie Hill hit the post and be cleared.
Later, De Filippo was at it again, being found down the right channel inside the box and firing a driven shot towards goal, but Roses FC ‘keeper Anna Karpenko did well to hold onto it.
Both sides kept working hard to try to best each other, but would have to be content with the stalemate as they went into half-time.
Rise FC kept the energy going in the second half, as Alex Lamontagne had a good chance after breaking down the right side. The forward drove into the box and tried to squeeze a shot into the near post but it was blocked before it could reach its mark.
Abdu almost blew the roof off the net in the 56th minute, after a Pante cross was deflected into her path, but her thunderous shot went just over the crossbar.
Rise FC turned up the intensity as they entered the last half-hour, with Pante and Abdu exploiting the spaces out wide.
However, Roses FC managed to steal the momentum back and score the opener in the 67th through Lisa Pechersky, who capitalized on a loose ball and placed it into the far corner.
Jessica Wulf made a huge save just a few minutes later to keep the deficit to one, denying Elyse Bennett from scoring off a driven cross.
Anaïs Oularbi almost got Rise FC back on level terms, after squeezing a cross in from a tight angle, the ball got deflected towards goal and Karpenko had to make a knee-jerk save to keep it out.
Rise FC finally caught a break in the 83rd minute when a Yuka Okamoto cross deflected right to De Filippo, who slotted in her 12th of the season to put her as the outright NSL Golden Boot leader.
De Filippo almost had a quickfire brace after meeting the cross of Camila Reyes from a corner, but her header once again floated over the framework.
Tori Tumeth nearly provided a wonderful assist after a marauding run forward, floating it to an onrushing Abdu in behind, who took a great touch to bring it down and fire it towards goal, but it was well-saved by Karpenko.
Rise FC flexed their never-give-up attitude in added time and took the lead through Tori Tumeth, who rose highest to meet an Oularbi corner and nod it in.
However, Roses FC showed the same spirit and equalized it a minute later after Evelyn Badu fired it in.
Rise FC threw everything forward in the closing seconds to try to claw back the win, but were unable despite a handful of close chances, meaning both sides go home with the spoils shared.
