The crowd at the Willoughby Stadium in Langley was electric as the Vancouver Rise FC Academy dominated Alianza Women 8-nil on Thursday (Oct. 16).
One fan could be heard yelling, “You got this, queen,” to a Rise FC player as she made her way up the pitch.
The Rise FC Academy held possession 42.4 per cent of the time, took 18 shots, 13 of which were on goal. The Alianza Women held possession for 57.6 per cent, took two shots, both on goal.
In the third minute of play, Rise FC Academy's Seina Kashima scored, followed by Jenna Baxter on a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Seina Kashima scored again in the 23rd minute, followed by Myla Ewasiuk in the 39th minute. Bianca Patik scored in the 44th minute, followed by Jenna Baxter in the 44th. In the second half, Myla Ewasiuk scored during the 49th minute and Bianca Patik scored the last goal of the match during the 62nd minute.
This was Rise FC's final game in the group stage of the Concacaf Women's Champions Cup. They finished fourth in their group, ahead of Alianza Women FC. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals. The Washington Spirit finished first in group B, followed by Gotham FC.
This is the first time the Vancouver Rise FC Academy has participated in this competition, a spokesperson for the Academy said.
Vancouver Rise FC Academy, formerly known as Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, is a full-time development program that has a "standardized national curriculum" for U15-U18 female players that feeds into Canada Soccer's women's national EXCEL program.
