BURNABY, BC (AUGUST 15, 2026) – Drama was the theme of Saturday night’s match at Swangard Stadium as Vancouver Rise FC scored a last minute goal to come from behind and defeat Halifax Tides FC 2-1. 

Rise FC almost had an instant lead, as Jessica De Filippo had a great chance at the edge of the six-yard box inside the first 120 seconds of the match, but her first-time shot went over the bar. 

10 minutes later, Anna Bout slipped in Anaïs Oularbi down the left, who cut it back for De Filippo, but her sliding effort just missed the ball. Rise FC ‘keeper Morgan McAslan then made a stellar save a few minutes later, stopping a point-blank shot from Julia Benati, before smothering the follow-up. 

However, Tides FC would find the opener in the 18th minute, after Julia Benati put Rhodes in behind to score past McAslan. 

Bout had a crack at goal in the 30th minute, trying to get Rise FC back on level terms with a shot from distance, but it skipped past the far post. 

As the half drew to a close, Rise FC began to get into their groove, throwing crosses left and right into the box, as they searched for the equalizer. Right before the break, Myla Ewasiuk got on the end of an Oularbi free-kick to head towards goal, but Tides FC ‘keeper Anika Tóth was equal to it. 

Rise FC then went into the half with plenty of time to get back into the match. 

The second half started with Rise FC immediately putting the pressure on Tides FC, with Latifah Abdu coming on to add some extra firepower in the attack. 

Abdu’s impact was almost immediate, after Camila Reyes slipped her in behind to go one-on-one with Tóth, but the forward slipped right as she was shooting, meaning the ball could only trickle towards goal before it was cleared. 

All that momentum finally came to a head for Rise FC, as they found their equalizer in the 56th minute after Anna Bout’s cross found the head of De Filippo, who thundered it past Tóth to bring her team back level. 

Now on equal terms, Rise FC ramped up the intensity as they searched for the winner. 

Josie Longhurst, off the bench, came close to doing exactly that with a screamer in the 74th minute, as she popped up the ball just outside the box and went for an audacious volley, but despite getting the power right, her effort went just wide of the mark. 

Abdu nearly scored a similar screamer seven minutes later, after the forward turned two defenders and blasted a volley that forced Tóth into a fingertip save. Not long later, De Filippo was denied her second by the frame of the goal, after her header was deflected onto the post and out. 

The tension was thick in the stands as the clock went into additional time, with Rise FC pushing and pushing for that late winner. Abdu found some space on the left and looped a cross towards the penalty spot, where De Filippo was able to control the ball, and fire home the winner in front of a raucous Swangard Stadium. 

Rise FC are back in action on Saturday, August 22 as they take on Ottawa Rapid FC  in Ontario. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. PT. Rise FC then travel back home to host Calgary Wild FC on Saturday, August 29 at 3 p.m. PT. Fans can grab tickets at vanrisefc.com/tickets.
